MAGDALENIAN ENGRAVED BONE

Markings on a bone from early Magdalenian times. Many such bones are calendars with the phases of the moon (sometimes even eclipses) clearly marked. However, this looks like an early form of notation bordering on writing. (From Marshack, 1972)
